The Void: What It Really Means When Life Feels Like It's Falling Apart

If you feel like your life has been turned upside down—emotionally, mentally, or even spiritually—you might be in what many call 'The Void'.

It’s not a breakdown. It’s a breakthrough in disguise.

This phase often arises when you begin questioning the direction of your life, your purpose, and your identity. It's a deeply personal and often uncomfortable time where old patterns fall away and the new hasn’t quite arrived.

I originally wrote this article for clients in my program A Weight Off My Mind because so many find themselves here. If you're in this space, I hope these words help you make sense of what you're feeling.

What Is the Void?

As Sanaya Roman explains:

The Void is a state of consciousness you can go into to expand beyond your current limits, let go of old things, and move to your next level of expansion -

The Void occurs when you release a version of yourself that no longer fits who you are becoming. In this space, clarity eventually surfaces—but first, you may feel lost, disoriented, or emotionally raw.

It can last hours, days, or even months.

Signs You Might Be in the Void

  • You feel emotionally overwhelmed or numb

  • Your social energy is low; you crave time alone

  • Long-held structures in your life are falling away

  • You feel confused, disconnected, or unsure of your purpose

  • Physical symptoms like exhaustion, brain fog, or changes in sleep patterns

  • Your moods fluctuate dramatically

  • You're drawn to inner reflection and questioning everything

  • Old patterns resurface to be seen, felt, and released

  • You feel like something big is shifting—but you can't see it yet

Navigating the Void with Grace

The Void is not here to punish you. It’s a sacred pause. A shedding. A reset.

Here are some gentle ways to support yourself during this time:

 Silence the noise.

Spend time in stillness. Even a few minutes of silence each day can bring clarity.

Let go of old stories.

Release the ideas of who you were or what life "should" look like.

Prioritise inner work.

Journaling, therapy, energy healing, or guided meditations can help create the shift you’re looking for.

Listen to your intuition.

Let it be your compass—it knows the way forward, even when your mind doesn’t.

Be kind to yourself.

You're not meant to have it all figured out right now.

Take an aligned action.

When insights come or new paths appear, follow the breadcrumbs.

Visualise your next chapter.

Even if it’s blurry now, allow yourself to dream.

Explore deeper.
Ask:
What are the possibilities here?
Where do I want to be?

Trust.

Learn to trust the small nudges, even if they don’t make sense at the time.

Step out of safety.

What is the tiniest action you could take right now that isn’t scary but isn’t the old pattern?

Follow your curiosity.

Not where you think you should be—follow what feels alive. Be your own alchemist.

Test your yes's.
To everything. Let life respond to your openness.

This is a time of spiritual transformation. As you let go of the old, space is being made for something new, aligned, and more truthful to emerge.

If this speaks to where you are right now, know you’re not alone. I see this phase so often with my clients, and it’s always the beginning of something deeply meaningful.
